Venting with options
Architecturally, screens for windows and doors usually fall under the category of “necessary evil.” They add bulk to sight lines, increase the required wall depth, and generally interfere with the architectural program. However, passive cooling and cross-ventilation are important functions of venting windows and doors, so it is common practice to incorporate screens where necessary. Designing screens for fenestration typically involves integrating them among solar shades and blinds, which are also located at the interior of the header.
We use a wide variety of screen meshes, from the fine weave ClearVue through to bronze and aluminum mesh. It’s worth noting that different screen materials come in different roll sizes, so maximum dimensions for a single, no-seam piece will vary. For example, vinyl meshes are in larger rolls and metal meshes are in smaller.
